Chocolate layer cake + two chocolates frosting

thumbnail

There is always a good reason to bake a chocolate cake, at least I always find one. But this one, I had it in mind for quite a period of time but I was scared to try it! Never tried layered cake before, I do prefer savory food and I’m not the best at baking : all of this reasons are wrong. It was THE BEST cake!

It is pretty simple to make and doesn’t require a ton of baking utensils. The cake is not very sweet so when paired with the chocolaty frosting, it is perfectly balanced.

I may or may not had it for snack, breakfast and dessert… No shame. Try it and it’ll soon become your favorite party cake to make.

Chocolate layer cake + two chocolates frosting (serves 6/8) :

For the cake :

  • 200g granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 170g butter
  • 30cl milk
  • 80g cacao powder
  • 200g flour
  • 1 paquet yeast
  • 1 tsp salt

For the frosting :

  • 30g butter
  • 20cl sour cream
  • 80g milk chocolate
  • 120g dark chocolate

Preheat the oven at 180°C (356°F).

For the cake :

Grease a 20cm mold (if you have two, grease the 2).

In a bowl, mix sugar and butter until creamy. Add milk and cacao powder. Mix well. Add eggs, flour, yeast and salt. Mix until smooth.

Pour half of the batter in the mold and bake for 25-30 minutes. When it’s done, let cool a little bit, take it out of the mold and do the same thing with the rest of the batter.

For the frosting :

Melt chocolate and butter in a water bath. Boil your sour cream in a pan. Remove from the heat and pour sour cream on the chocolate and butter. Stir well, let it cool.

If your frosting is a little bit too runny put it in the fridge for a few minutes before using it.

Take a cake, pour about half of the frosting and frost it. Add the second cake, do the same, smooth the edges with a spatula.

Keep the cake at room temperature or the frosting will harden.
