Discovering food and handcraft in the Châtelleraudais

This post is written in partnership with the tourist office of the Châtelleraudais

My family lives in Poitou-Charentes, I lived there for 8 years before heading to Lyon but I never really make up time to discover this region, its culture and its food. I had the chance to work in partnership with the tourist office to do so and I thank them!
In this post, you’ll see a few things you can eat there and a few things you can see that are handmade. Next week, I’ll take you for a city tour!

What do we eat there?

The farci poitevin

Kinda like a green terrine with pork, sorrel and cabbage. It can be eaten cold or warm. It is really earthy, you taste the herbs really good. It is not my favorite thing but it’s not bad!

The tourteau fromagé

My favorite thing! It is a cheese cake with a burnt crust. The inside is sweet and airy. So so good.

The broyé du poitou

A hard biscuit that you must break with your fist on the center of the table, as it was traditionally made. It is buttery and goes well with coffee.

The grêlons de la Vienne

Chocolate and icing sugar covered almonds, as delicious as it sounds!

Handcraft

I had the opportunity, thanks to the tourist office, to meet the artist behind  « Au chant du diamant« , Isabelle Constant. I was amazed and surprised, she is located in a beautiful green place with ducks and peacocks all around.

She is glassmaker and owns a workshop in an old mill in Senillé (86). She restores stain-glass but also creates her own trophies, sculptures! Here is a peek at what she is doing.

You can also find some beautiful knives, handmade in Châtellerault.
