Vegan sesame crackers

Vegan sesame crackers

Crackers : little things you inhale by the dozens for a snack and that are full of useless unreadable ingredients. Why not make it yourself? It is easy, makes a great activity for kids and it is delicious!

The big + in the recipe : the base is neutral so you could flavor it as you like it! I did a mix of sea salt, sesame seeds and fennel seeds, it is great with hummus. You can imagine the combo of your choice : salt, pepper, chili, paprika, cheese…Etc!

You’ll need… 5 ingredients for these vegan crackers! + toppings of your choice. It’s better than the arm long list of ingredients you can find in most grocery stores even though there are some healthier options now. I like my crackers crispy on the edges and a little softer in the middle but if you like it super thin just roll the dough very thinly.

Vegan sesame crackers (about 40 crackers) :

  • 190g (1 + 1/2 cups) flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 235 ml (1/2 cup) water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Preheat the oven at 175°C/350°F.

Mix flour, salt and sugar in a big bowl.

Dump in water and oil, mix with a wooden spoon until a dough starts to form.

Transfer on a lightly floured surface and kneed until the farine is well incorporated.

Shape a thick square and roll from the center to the edges until as thin as you desire.

Brush with a little bit of olive oil to glue the seeds.

Spread the seeds onto the dough and flatten with the palm of your hands to make it stick really well.

Cut into desired shapes and transfer onto a parchment paper covered baking tray.

Poke 2 rows of holes in each crackers with a fork.

Bake it for 12-15 minutes depending on your oven or until it’s golden brown.

Let cool completely before serving. You can keep the crackers in an air-tight containers, it will last up until 4 days.
