Tahini is a sesame seeds based paste. It is used in hummus, baba ganoush and a lot of sweet treats too.
It is not very easy to find where I live and it is expensive. So I bought sesame seeds and decided to do it myself.
It is so simple, tasty and you can make the desired amount without wasting. I make small batches at a times because if I make too much I run out of ideas to use it.
Homemade tahini (about 3 tablespoons) :
- 50g sesame seeds
- 15g neutral vegetable oil
If your seeds are roasted, skip this step. If not, preheat the oven at 200°C (370°F). Spread the seeds on a parchment paper covered sheet. Roast for 5 to 7 minutes or until it is slightly golden.
In a food processor (or blender), add oil and seeds. Mix, mix, mix. Scrap the sides to ensure every seeds get mixed. It took me about 7-10 minutes to have a smooth paste.
Keep in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
