Carne asada style veal tacos

Carne asada style veal tacos

I published another taco recipe recently with barbacoa beef. These ones are quite different, marinated in a citrusy spicy marinade, then the meat gets grilled and serve as it with your favorite toppings. Sounds good, right?

Do not over marinate the meat because this marinade is super acidic, it'll break down the meat and you don't want that. Be careful! My favorite toppings for these tacos : cilantro, guacamole, red onions, a generous squeeze of lime and salsa roja.

Carne asada style veal tacos (18 tacos) :

For the marinade :

  • 400g veal flank
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • Juice of an orange
  • Juice of a lime
  • 80ml (1/3 cup) olive oil
  • 1 serrano pepper
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper

For the tacos :

  • 18 tortillas
  • Red onion
  • Avocado
  • Cilantro
  • Lime
  • Salsa

In a shallow dish (or ziplock bag), mix all the ingredients for the marinade.

Add the meat and mix it well. Let it marinate 2 to 4 hours, not more.

Drain the veal so it doesn't drip with marinade.

Heat a pan on medium high with a bit of olive oil.

Cook the veal 7 minutes on each side (less if its not as thick as mine). I like it medium rare but feel free to cook it more.

Let the meat rest for 10 minutes before slicing it thinly.

Enjoy with your favorite toppings in a warm tortillas!
