Homemade pretzels

Homemade pretzels

I don't even know how I didn't post this recipe on the blog before, it's a favorite in our home! It's quite easy to make, a bit time consuming as for all dough recipes but also very very addictive. Look at that melted cheese on top! I also made a few with sesame seeds and poppy seeds.

I eat them just like that, warm out of the over, it's the best. But they're delicious served with a soup too. Have fun with the toppings : bacon, cheese, seeds, rock salt... Enjoy!

Homemade pretzels (8) :

  • 610g flour
  • 350ml lukewarm water
  • 15g sugar
  • 10g salt
  • 5g dried yeast
  • 55g butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 liters water
  • 100g baking soda
  • Grated cheese
  • Poppy seeds
  • Sesame seeds

In a bowl, mix together flour, salt, sugar and yeast. Mix.

Add lukewarm water and mix with a wooden spoon. Add softened butter and start kneading the dough.

Transfer to a work surface and knead for 10 minutes. Dough must be smooth and not sticky.

Put the dough back in the bowl and let it rise at room temperature for 1h30.

Punch the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.

Preheat the oven at 180°C/350°F.

Roll each pieces of dough into a long string and shape the pretzels.

Boil 2 liters of water with baking soda in a pot.

Poach the pretzels 30 seconds in water then put them on parchment paper covered baking sheet.

Brush the pretzels with egg yolk.

Add cheese or seeds.

Bake for 12 minutes at 180°C/350°F.

Let them cool a bit before enjoying them!
