Almonds & plums beef tajine

Almonds & plums beef tajine

Sweet elements in savory dishes is a big debate here, I know I know. But we love it here! So I made a very delicious almonds and plums beef tajine. It takes a bit of time to cook but we are still pretty much locked down here so that's fine. I like making it early in the morning around 9:30am so that it's all ready for lunch, you just have to dive in!

You could also use dried apricots if you don't really like plums. I usually hate plums if it is not cooked down in a savory dish but this one really blew my mind. It really takes this dish up a notch!

Almonds & plums beef tajine (serves 3-4) :

  • 400g stew beef meat
  • 150g dried plums
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 60g slivered almonds
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper

Fry the almonds in a bit of oil for a few minutes until golden brown.

Drain them and put them on paper towel to absorb excess fat.

Cube your meat.

Mince the onion and garlic.

In a pot, add a couple tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Add the meat, onions and garlic to the pot. Turn it on high heat so it browns the meat.

When the meat and onions are browned, add all spices. Season with salt and pepper.

Mix well and cover with water to the top. Add the dried plums.

Cover with a lid and let it simmer for at least 2 hours, checking on it regularly to see if there is enough water left, adding more if needed.

It's done when the sauce has thickens and the meat is super tender.

Eat it with couscous or french fries!
