Chili and garlic shrimps gua bao

Let's make comfort food today, pillowy gua bao with garlic and chili shrimps inside. Doesn't that sound so good ?

I love love love gua bao. They're fluffy steamed buns, so pillowy. You can put pretty much whatever you feel like inside but these chili and garlic shrimps are really really good. I highly recommend them !

I like to add lemon juice and a ton of cilantro. Let's make gua bao !

Chili and garlic shrimps gua bao (serves 2) :

  • 10 gua bao
  • 500g raw shrimps
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 3cm de gingembre
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce (nuoc mam)
  • 1/2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 chili
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

For the toppings :

  • 1/2 bunch of cilantro
  • Chives
  • Sesame seeds

Peel and devein the shrimps.

Chop garlic and ginger thinly.

In a bowl, mix rice vinegar, sliced chili, soy sauce, fish sauce, pepper and honey. Mix until combined.

Melt the butter in a pan on medium heat.

Add garlic and ginger, stir fry it for a minute.

Add the shrimps, cook 2 minutes, keep stirring.

Add the sauce, mix well, let it cook for a minute or two then turn off the heat.

Add chopped cilantro and sesame seeds.

Stuff the gua bao with shrimps, sauce, garnish with chopped chives and enjoy!
